アジア舞台芸術フェスティバル協会 The Association of Asian Performing Arts Festivals (AAPAF)
The Association of Asian Performing Arts Festivals (AAPAF) is a membership type organization established in Singapore in June of 2004 with the aim of getting the international arts festivals of the Asian region to work together in ways that produced a synergistic effect and expand the market. The main initiators of the organization were the
Singapore Arts Festival
(Chair), the China Shanghai International Arts Festival (Vice Chair), the Hong Kong International Arts Festival (Vice Chair) and the Jakarta International Arts Festival, and today it also includes the Nanning International Folk Song Arts Festival, the Seoul International Dance Festival, the
Seoul Performing Arts Festival
and the Tokyo International Arts Festival as members of its operating committee.
AAPAF was established with the objectives to:
–Promote international co-operation between Asian festivals and other similar organizations
–Support the development and promotion of artists and festival organizations in Asia
–Facilitate and create opportunities for co-operation in artistic productions and operational fields
–Encourage the exchange of experience and knowledge among Members
–Coordinate training programs and seminars for the betterment of Members\' activities
–Collect and make available information and statistical data to Members and external organizations
–Represent the common interests of Members in their dealings with public and private institutions in both national and international fields
The Association has a two-tier membership system with full members and associate members. To become a full member, an organization must have already organized at least one performing arts festival in Asia. Also, it is expected to be an ongoing festival that will be held at some regular interval, have both domestic and foreign programs and have a sustainable organization. Hopefully it is also a festival that contributes to the spread, creation and development of professional artists and their works with its programs.
The associate members are ones that do not satisfy all of the above requirements or as festivals that are held outside the Asian region. The associate members are also ones that may have an ongoing festival organization but may not place as much importance on nurturing artists.
The most immediate benefit in becoming a member of this Association is the quick, firsthand access to all information on all kinds of festivals and artists in the Asian region available to the Association. It is also possible to share in programming and ideas and participate in joint commissioning or joint production of works. Participation is also possible in tours outside the Asian region.
The full members and associate members gather at the Annual General Meeting to discuss AAPAF program and policy directions and current issues. Two Annual General Meetings have been held since the establishment. On the two days of June 7 and 8, 2006 a joint meeting was held with the Association of Asia Pacific Performing Arts Centres (AAPPAC http://www.aappac.net/ ) was held in conjunction with the 20th meeting of ISPA on Hong Kong ( http://www.ispa.org/hongkong/index.html ).
