Playwright, director. Born Nov. 1, 1980 in Shimane Prefecture. Graduated from Osaka Prefecture University. Began writing plays as a university student and formed the theater unit Kirin Bazooka in 2002 to self-produce plays. After graduation, the unit was disbanded temporarily when Toyone moved to Tokyo. His plays are typified by serious themes explored with a kind and caring perspective, such as Tobu Itami (2008), depicting people preparing for their own deaths in a hospital for the terminally ill where it is possible to transfer your pain to other people, and Sumeru (2009), which depicts the daily lives of young people of the future living under a law that says they must return to their hometowns if they are unable to fulfill their responsibility to work and pay taxes.
