Tetsuya Umeda
Tetsuya Umeda (b. 1980) is an artist who uses ubiquitous things and devices from daily life, like water, stone, electric light bulbs and fans, to create live installations that generate “phenomena” with sounds and movement we have never heard or seen before. He has been active as artist since early 2000s, and his form of expression that is called installations at museums, galleries and the like and performance at theaters, festivals have drawn on media and materials from across genres freely to offer unique experiences for the people who enter these spaces he creates. Also, in recent years he has collaborated with musicians like Tenniscoats, artists like Yosuke Amemiya and Hiraki Sawa and dancers and choreographers like Pijin Neji in projects that create “phenomena” with a variety of participants. And in May 2017 he was invited to present his work at Belgium’s Kunstenfestivaldesarts, a festival known for its presentations of cutting edge performance arts, where he created a performance using a variety of different residents of Brussels that stood out for its unique nature.
