Bunraku gidayu
Born in Tokyo in 1965, Rosetayu became apprenticed to the Juzo Tsuruzawa IV in 1979. In 1982, he entered the 8th class of Bunraku trainee program at the National Theatre. In 1984 he was apprenticed to Nambutayu Takemoto V and given the artist name Nanjutayu Takemoto, and in July of that year he performed for the first time at the National Bunraku Theatre. In 1985 he was apprenticed to Rotayu Toyotake, and in 1988 his artist name was changed to Rosetayu Toyotake. In 2000, he was apprenticed to Shimatayu Toyotake VIII. In the same year he was awarded the “Sakuya kono Hana Award” given to outstanding creative artists by the City of Osaka. In 2013, he was recipient of the Japanese Traditional Cultures Foundation Award.
