Michihiko Kakazu
Ryukyu buyo performer and keeper of the traditions of Kumiodori
Born in 1979 in Naha City, Okinawa. He began studying traditional Ryukyu dance at the age of four under Nozo Miyagi I and Nori Miyagi. He received a Master of Arts degree from the musicology arts department of the Graduate School of Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts. While a graduate student Kakazu began creating new Kumiodori works and performed at the performances commemorating the opening of the National Theatre Okinawa, etc. After working as a part-time instructor at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, he was appointed artistic director and Planning and chief of Production Dept. of the National Theatre Okinawa in April of 2013.
