Kengo Minamide

Born in Ishikawa Pref., 1974. Leader of the theater company Ryanmennyuron founded in Osaka in 1999, and from 2006 he has participated in the theatre unit Common days he formed with the sound artist Shinomy. In Tokyo, Minamide is active as the in-house playwright for the theater company Ramanoda. In 2015, his play Owattenai-shi won the Excellence Prize of the 2nd Hokkaido Drama Awards, and in 2017 his play Fureta dake won the 22nd Japan Playwrights Association New Playwright Prize. Other accolades include nomination as a finalist for the 21st Japan Playwrights Association New Playwright Prize, the 15th and 18th OMS Drama Award, the 10th and 12th AAF Drama Award. As an actor as well, he has won the award for Best Actor at the 33rd Osaka Spring Theater Festival. Against the background of the veil of anxiety that covers contemporary life, Minamide uses scenes of everyday life and conversation to paint pictures of somehow twisted and at times humorous conflicts with the human relationships of men and women.
