Festival Theaterformen

A festival of contemporary theatre founded in 1990. It has been held 11 times in Braunschweig and eight times in Hannover in the past, with simultaneous events in both cities from 1998 to 2004; since 2007 it has been held in Braunschweig in even-numbered years and in Hannover in odd-numbered years. It presents various forms of theatre, mainly from German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), including huge operas, classical plays, documentary theatre, monologues and multimedia installations.The director has been Martine Dennewald since 2015.Half of the approximately 260 productions presented up to 2014 were world, German or European premieres. chelfitsch participated in 2010-2011.
In 2020, to prevent the spread of covid-19 infection, some of the programme was held online, and a new work by Yudai Kamisato, Kao Kao Club.mp3, was presented online from Japan. 1 September 2020, Anna Muelter, former director of Tanztage Berlin and Tanzhaus was appointed as the new artistic director.
