Beppu Art Month

This event is organized by the Mixed Bathing World Executive Committee, which hosts the Beppu Contemporary Art Festival “Mixed Bathing World” in the hot-spring city of Beppu, and a coinciding citizens’ cultural festival has been held since 2010. Not only artists, but also the general public can participate freely, and citizens can continue to be involved in cultural activities and community development. Initially, the festival was held separately from contemporary art projects such as “Mixed Bathing World” and “in BEPPU,” but from 2022, contemporary art projects will also be implemented as a “Beppu Art Month.” A diverse program will be offered, ranging from craft exhibitions at stores in Beppu City to outsider art exhibitions, artist-in-residence programs at hot spring spa facilities and city apartments, as well as choreographer workshops. In 2022, Berlin-based artist Chiharu Shiota also planned to create an installation.
