Oku-Noto Triennale

This international art festival held once every three years in Suzu City, Oku-Noto located at the tip of the Noto Peninsula, was launched in 2017. The general director is Fram Kitagawa. Surrounded on three sides by the sea, including the rough offshore waters of the Japan Sea and the calm waters of the inner bay area at a point where cold sea currents and warm currents meet, along with the unique topography of the Noto Peninsula, have nurtured a natural environment rich in a myriad of flora and fauna as well as a wealth of traditional culture in the farming areas and the coastal fishing communities. Amid this wealth of “life culture” to be found in the greater area of Suzu City, Oku-Noto Triennale invites artists to rediscover this cultural environment in creative ways.
After being postponed for one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the second Triennale was held in 2021 as “Oku-Noto International Art Festival 2020 +”.
