Festivalul International de Teatru de la Sibiu

Held in the city of Sibiu in central Romania, this is one of Eastern Europe's largest theater festivals. Launched initially as a student theater festival in 1993, from the second holding the organizers began expanding the program annually to make Sibiu's a full-fledged international theater festival, making use of a variety of venues around the city. In recent years, the festival has hosted around 350 companies from 70 countries. In 2007 Sibiu was designated a European Capital of Culture, and with support from the EU-Japan Fest, many Japanese artists have been invited to the festival. The festival's director is Constantin Chiriac.
