Detours Festival

This dance festival was launched in 2009 by Milan Emmanuel, the leader in Belgium of the break dance company No Way Back, who has worked with directors such as Robert Wilson or Olivier Py. The festival is dedicated to presenting dance across the full range of genres, from street dance and dance on stage to hip-hop and contemporary dance, and while valuing the culture born and raised on the street, the festival also provides support for things like the creation of new works and works in progress to be performed on stage by companies with their origins in street dance in order to support their growth as professional artists. The festival also organizes outdoor events to exhibit street art and music, and every Wednesday during the festival, dance battles under the name Detours Cyphers are held at Mont des Arts in front of the Bruegel Stock Exchange.
