Full Moon Dance Festival (canceled due to concerns over the new coronavirus)
This festival was launched in 1992 with the aim of providing young choreographers and dancers a place to perform experimental works, while also organizing forums for audience feedback and discussion. Since then it has been held every year. The town of Pyhäjärvi where it is held is small, with a population of just 7,500. However, even before the start of the festival the town was a center for dance where most of Finland's primarily modern dance artists had performed or taught classes―a phenomenon known as “the miracle of Pyhäjärvi.” The festival presents the latest works from Finland and abroad and post-performance discussions and workshops in a program that is quite comprehensive approach to contemporary dance despite the festival's smaller scale. The festival's artistic director is Alpo Aaltokoski.
