Internationales Sommerfestival Hamburg

The name of the venue and organizer "Kampnagel" comes from the fact that the building was founded as an ironwork factory called "Nagel & Kaemp" in 1865. The factory was closed in 1981, and Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg used it as rehearsal space during refurbishment of their own theater. Local theatre companies also started to use the building, and going through changes and development in the management, facilities and production scale, Kampnagel established itself as an international center of contemporary arts. The building was refurbished in 1988 (OR by dumb type was presented at the reopening), and "Internationale Sommertheater Festival Hamburg," which had been held as an independent festival, became its own project.

Gordana Vnuk, the founder of the international festival "EUROKAZ" in Croatia and the director of the art center "Chapter" in Wales from 1996 to 1999, reformed the festival as "Kampnagel-Sommerfestival LAOKOON" in 2001. For three years from 2002, the critic Hidenaga Otori was involved as artistic director. Vnuk's contract was completed in 2007, and since 2008 the festival has been called "Internationales Sommerfestival Hamburg." From Japan, such artists / companies as DA·M, Takeshi Kawamura, Gekidan Kaitaisha and Nibroll have participated in the festival, and Hot Pepper, Air Conditioner, and the Farewell Speech by chelfitsch is in the 2010 program.
